At the Center for Cancer Care & Research, we realize that each patient is special so each treatment regimen is unique to your individual case. Working together with your physician and cancer specialist, each patient receives a treatment plan customized for him or her. The Center provides an array of comprehensive treatment options, including the latest equipment and technology and most advanced treatment protocols. The following is a list of the Center’s services:

Your Inner Hero:  Life After Cancer Treatment & Beyond

is an inspiring and informative new education class aimed at serving cancer patients who are entering the next phase of their lives after chemotherapy. The class meets on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month from 2:00 pm – 3:30 pm, during which members of the CCCR team interact with patients to discuss a variety of topics, including follow-up care, managing physical changes following chemotherapy, maintaining social and work relationships, and much more.

The class takes place in the boardroom of the Center for Cancer Care & Research. The program is free of charge, but seating is limited. Please RSVP by calling 863-603-4770.

Conquering Chemotherapy

Is an interactive experience where knowledge and compassion come together. The class is designed to empower patients and their families with the most up to date information on cancer treatment and side-effect management. We believe this is the foundation for providing excellent medical care, which in turn will lead to better outcomes.

We welcome and encourage your attendance at Conquering Chemotherapy. This class is held every Thursday afternoon at 2:00 pm in the Center for Cancer Care & Research Board Room. Come and discover that you can make a difference in controlling these common cancer treatment symptoms and know that you are not alone.

Clinical Research
Through the Center’s designation as an affiliate site of the
Southwest Oncology Group (SWOG) and its relationship with Moffitt, we offer a wide variety of clinical research trials to provide our patients with the latest innovations in targeted therapies. Several studies are in progress,  involving lung cancer, prostate cancer, breast cancer, anemia and most importantly, prevention are underway (Current Protocols).

Additionally, our center has an Institutional Review Board that reviews all clinical trials and protocols to ensure that ethical and scientific standards are implemented and maintained. We also are initiating a tumor registry staffed by specially trained individuals who register all cancer patients according to their diagnosis, treatment and results. We monitor each case for life to ensure there is the best possible outcome.

New Treatment Options and High-Tech Advances
Our cancer specialists utilize the most technologically advanced methods to treat cancer.   With some of the latest radiation therapy alternatives, progressive surgical interventions and state-of-the-art equipment, we can offer one of the most important therapies of all — hope. Some of the treatment options at the Center include:

  • High Dose Rate Brachy Therapy or HDR. The implantation (either directly or in hollow applicators) of radioactive sources into various tumors is significant for patients with certain cancers. And with      the high dose rate, what once meant a few days in the hospital can now be done in an afternoon.
  • Computer Aided Detection or CAD. With early detection remaining the key to surviving breast cancer, this new CAD system enables mammographers to confidently identify abnormalities or signs of disease on a regular basis during our mammogram screenings analyses and significantly increase the early detection rate of invasive cancers. This technology can be found at Watson Clinic Women's Center located on Lakeland Hills Blvd. and the corner of Parkview Place.
  • Stereotactic Biopsy. One of the new methods in minimally invasive breast biopsies, the special stereotactic table is connected to a computer that produces detailed x-ray images of the abnormality to be biopsied. Using these images, the doctor guides a special sampling device to collect tissue specimens, allowing the doctor to gain a more definitive diagnosis.
  • Mammotome. This advanced breast biopsy technology enables several tissue samples to be acquired without removing and reinserting the probe. As a result, there is minimal discomfort, less internal scarring and recovery time than open surgical or core needle biopsies.
  • Electronic Portal Imaging or EPD. A high-technology alternative that allows digital radiographs to be relayed instantaneously to the patient’s doctor greatly reducing the time a patient spends in a procedure.
  • Linear Accelerator. The Center’s new linear accelerator includes the latest IMRT technology - the most advanced treatment system for radiation treatment.
