Susan Burroughs
is a hematology/oncology physician assistant working closely with the Center’s
oncologists -- Dr. Franco, Dr.
Schreiber and Dr. Saez. As an integral part of their team, she assists in
various aspects of patient care to ensure the highest level of quality patient
relations.
Susan joined the Center in 2002 having spent eleven years at
the renowned H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Institute and three
years at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Syracuse, NY.
Susan’s role as a physician assistant at the Center for
Cancer Care & Research includes evaluating patients after diagnosis to
ensure accurate follow up care during their treatment plan. Her evaluations
include in-depth history and physicals, and diagnostic studies. She is involved
in the ongoing follow up evaluation of chemotherapy patients both immediately
post-treatment and long term. She also performs bone marrow aspiration and
biopsies to help diagnose hematological disorders.
Susan received her bachelor’s degree from Gannon University
in Erie, PA. She holds current licensure as a physician’s assistant in the
State of Florida, as well as certification as a physician’s assistant by the
National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
Susan is a member of the American Academy of Physician
Assistants and has held numerous positions within the Association of Physician
Assistants in Oncology such as national secretary, newsletter editor and
treasurer. She was the co-chair coordinator at both the 3rd and 7th Annual CME
Association of Physician Assistants in Oncology, which were held in November
2000 and October 2004.
